HARAS D’ETREHAM AND HARAS DE CERCY PURCHASE A SECOND SON OF SEA THE MOON

Haras d’Etreham and Haras de Cercy, who are already partners in the stallion career of Wonderful Moon, are pleased to announce the arrival of Pretty Tiger, also a son of Sea The Moon, at stud in France.

After winning three consecutive races at the beginning of his three-year-old season, Pretty Tiger then came in second to Cheshire Academy in the Prix Noailles Gr.3. In July of that same year, he won the Prix Eugene Adam Gr.2  from pillar to post, beating the future Gr.1 winner Adhamo amongst others. Resilient and consistent, he finished a good second in Prix Guillaume d’Ornano Gr.2 at Deauville the following month.

As a four-year-old, he lined up exclusively in Stakes company, and Pretty Tiger showcased both his quality and his redoubtable consistency never finishing further back than third.  He won the Grand Prix de la Riviera Cote d’Azur Listed on his seasonal bow, followed by thePrix Exbury Gr.3 in front of Hurricane Dream and Skalleti. He then came close to Gr.1 victory in the Prix Ganay, finishing second in front of Sealiway having been the quickest over the final 200 meters of the race before coming in third in the Prix d’Ispahan Gr.1, despite the distance being too short for him.Pretty Tiger ended his remarkable career with 17 runs from 2 to 5 years old, with six wins – four at Stakes level – and six Group places, beating 6 Gr.1 winners.

Stallion duties now beckon for this imposing dark bay who has an eye-catching model and a first-rate pedigree: inbred to the great Allegretta.

His sire Sea The Moon, who was the first Classic colt sired by Sea The Stars, continues to excel on the international stage. On the flat he is represented by, amongst others, Alpine Star, Muskoka, and the recent Prix Niel Gr.2 winner, Fantastic Moon. Sea The Moon has had an exceptional 2023 season, making history by siring the first three home in the Preis Der Diana Gr.1.In addition, his jumping progeny have been consistently in the spotlight with his first-crop Allmankid winning at Gr.1 level over fences for trainer Dan Skelton.

Pretty Tiger’s maternal pedigree traces back to an illustrious German bloodline that has given rise to champion racehorses and sires such as the breed-shaping Monsun, Anabaa Blue, and excellent damsire Zamindar, from the line of Mr. Prospector.

The stallion careers of Pretty Tiger and Wonderful Moon will be jointly managed by the studs, who will also be supporting both stallions. The stallions will be rotated annually between Haras de Cercy and Haras de la Tuilerie in Normandy, standing opposite seasons at each location.

Breeding rights are available in Pretty Tiger, who will begin his career at Haras de la Tuilerie in 2024. Wonderful Moon, one of the leading German 3-year-olds with outstanding first foals, will stand the upcoming covering season at Haras de Cercy.

Nicolas de Chambure explained: “We are delighted to have purchased Pretty Tiger to join our stallion roster. He has an exceptional physique, size, speed, and a colossal acceleration; all of which will make him a great match for French national hunt broodmares.

It is fantastic to have Haras de Cercy as our partner for these two sires, Wonderful Moon and Pretty Tiger. These two sons of Sea the Moon will benefit from the support of both structures, a huge positive for their stallion career. This partnership will also mean that the sire line is constantly available to breeders both in the Center of France and Normandy.”

Jacques Cyprès, President of Haras de Cercy, said:  "The partnership between Haras d’Etreham and Haras de Cercy for the stallion careers of Pretty Tiger and Wonderful Moon is an excellent opportunity for the breeders. These two geographically distant regions will be able to combine their skills and knowledge around these two Gr.1 performers on the flat, offering a wide range of breeders the opportunity to access the sought-after genetics of the Champion Sea The Moon.
Pretty Tiger and Wonderful Moon ran over the Classic distance and performed at a high level early in their respective racing careers, making them valuable assets to French national hunt breeding. Haras de Cercy ‘s Board of Directors is pleased to welcome this partnership with Haras d’Etreham, which aligns with their stallion policy.”
