Success for Almanzor’s first yearlings in European sales rings

The first representative of her sire, the second offspring of the Group 1 German Oaks third and Gr.2 placed Amona, was sold for 70,000€ at Baden Baden where she was the sole yearling by Almanzor.

 

Arqana’s Select Sale catalogue featured 25 yearlings from the first generation of the son of Wootton Bassett, presented by 13 different consigners.

With 100% of yearlings sold for an average price of 125,000€, the first day of the Deauville sale was a resounding success.
The top price of the day, at 280,000€ was reached by lot 101, presented by the Ecurie des Monceaux. A half-brother to three black-type performers, including multiple American Group 1 winner Miss Temple City, the colt was purchased by Michael Kinane on behalf of the Hong Kong Jockey Club.

During the same session, the Ecurie des Monceaux also presented lot 87, an Almanzor half-brother to four black-type individuals, snapped up by Al Shaqab for 150,000€
Trainers Carlos and Yann Lerner had the last word at 125,000€ for lot 79, a daughter of Elodie who is a full sister to With You and We Are.

The Haras d’Ombreville and Haras de Grandcamp both saw their fillies change hands for 100,000€ to Prime Equestrian and Tina Rau Bloodstock respectively.

During the second day of the sale, Almanzor’s yearlings posted an excellent median price of 250,000€. Laurent Benoît paid 280,000€ for lot 231 on behalf of Jean-Philippe Dubois. This filly is a half-sister to Group placed and Listed winners Sivolière and Suphala.

Olivier St Lawrence was busy throughout the session and his purchases included two yearlings by Almanzor. He bid 260,000€ for lot 158, consigned by the Haras de Bourgeauville, a colt out of Gr.2 victrix and Gr.1 placed Minakshi.

The bloodstock agent also acquired the first offspring of Penny Lane, a juvenile Listed winner and third in the Gr.3 Prix Cleopatre, for 250,000€.

 In a unique context and a particularly selective market, the three-day Arqana sale concluded with excellent statistics for Almanzor, as the young sire recorded total turnover of 2,049,000€ and an average of 126,789€, for a clearance rate of 76%.
