2022 Haras d'Etreham's jumps stallions fees

Following a superb weekend of jumping action, during which Masked Marvel shone in both France and Ireland, the Haras d’Etreham is pleased to announce 2022 covering fees for Goliath du Berlais, Latrobe, Masked Marvel and Saint des Saints.

With the aim of facilitating access to its stallions for jumps breeders, the Haras d’Etreham has based its National Hunt sires at the Haras de la Tuilerie for the past three years. This is notably the case for Masked Marvel, a son of Montjeu who was represented by his first five-year-olds on the track this season. He now counts 30 winners of 60 races and seven black-type performers in France, England, Ireland, and as far afield as Australia where his flagbearer True Marvel is a six-time winner. His black-type progeny include Maskada, second today in the Mares Novices’ Hurdle Listed at Bongor-On-Dee; Listed victrix and Gr.3 placed LA DANZA, Pacha Senam who finished a narrow second in the Listed Prix Fondeur at Auteuil last Saturday and is already runner-up at Group level, and four-time scorer TEAHUPOO, the recent impressive wide-margin winner of the Gr.3 Fishery Lane Hurdle at Naas after taking second in the Gr.2 Juvenile Hurdle at Fairyhouse in spring.

Masked Marvel narrowly missed out on Gr.1 glory during Auteuil’s jumps weekend with SEL JEM. Trained by Hector de Lageneste and Guillaume Macaire, this gelding results from the successful cross of Masked Marvel on a dam by Saint des Saints and he put up a top-class performance in the Gr.1 Prix Maurice Gillois in which he was beaten in a photo finish. Masked Marvel is a rising star of National Hunt breeding in France and he will stand for 7,000€ next season.

Renowned for his exceptional racing career and imposing physique, the best stallion son of Saint des Saints, Goliath du Berlais, saw his first foals born in 2021. These include a brother of Auteuil’s three-year-old star Paradiso. Yesterday evening, his first foal to enter a public auction ring was sold for 68,000€ to JC Bloodstock who commented, “The colt is really very handsome, large, imposing… a great advert for the stallion!”

The leading French steeple-chaser at four years old, unbeaten in 2019 including victory in the Gr.1 Prix Ferdinand Dufaure, Goliath du Berlais naturally received strong support from his shareholders and from breeders, thanks to whom he covered full books in his first and second seasons. He will continue to cover for a fee of 7,500€ in 2022.

The latest arrival alongside Goliath du Berlais and Masked Marvel, Latrobe occupies a fascinating place in the French jumps stallion ranks. Out of a dam by Shamardal, this grandson of Montjeu is the only Gr.1 winner by Camelot, who will stand at 75,000€ in 2022, at stud in Europe. Latrobe is a winner of the Gr.1 Irish Derby, like Galileo, Montjeu, Soldier of Fortune and Dream Well, and runner-up in the Gr.1 Irish St Leger which has revealed talented jumps sires Turgeon, Yeats, and Jukebox Jury, and he completed a remarkable racing career from two to five years old, earning over one million Euros. The first foals of this handsome dark bay are eagerly awaited in 2022 and he will continue to be available at a fee of 4,000€.

A leading European stallion and sire of over 30 Stakes winners, Saint des Saints added a further five Group 1 victories to his roll of honour in 2021, thanks to NORTHERLY WIND, GAILLARD DU MESNIL, PROTEKTORAT and MONMIRAL, and almost one hundred successes. A remarkable broodmare sire, he counts 27 black-type performances including 11 wins in this category this year alone.
Saint des Saints’ fee will be unchanged at 15,000€ in 2022, and he will remain a resident of the Haras d’Etreham.
