The Haras d’Etreham announces 2023 fees for the stud’s flat stallions
The Haras d’Etreham is pleased to announce covering fees for its four flat sires for the 2023 season.
The stud’s flagship sire, Almanzor, who has just celebrated his first Gr.1 winner in the Southern Hemisphere, is represented by some talented three-year-olds and an excellent second crop of juveniles which are racing this year. With his first two crops, Almanzor has already produced winners in five different countries, black-type performers and some notable Classic prospects.
In addition to his 3-year-olds in 2022, which include QUEEN TREZY, 3rd in the Gr.1 Prix Saint-Alary and 2nd in the Gr.3 Prix Minerve or the impressive Gr.2 Prix Niel second LASSAUT, who should progress further in 2023, Almanzor can count on some promising Classic contenders next year.
Among these, RAJAPOUR is unbeaten in three outings, culminating with an impressive and easy success in the Listed Prix Isonomy over 1600m. He is one of Jean-Claude Rouget’s leading hopes for next season’s Poule d’Essai des Poulains and Prix du Jockey-Club. From the same stable of this master trainer, the filly AROUND MIDNIGHT was a brilliant Listed winner and finished second in the Gr.3 Prix des Réservoirs. In England, the Godolphin representative and half-brother to Palace Pier, CASTLE WAY, has left a formidable impression on two occasions, and looks to be a potential Derby colt.
The excellent results of his second generation on the track place Almanzor at the top of the sires’ standings for juveniles in France.
Thanks to a ratio of over 70% placed horses per runner for his first generation and almost 30% winners to runners for the second generation, Almanzor’s yearlings were once again well-received in the sales rings during 2022. 10 of his progeny exceeded the 100,000€ mark, and were acquired notably by Jean-Claude Rouget, John Foote, Stroud Coleman, Blandford Bloodstock or Middleham Park Racing. No less than 129 mares met with Almanzor this year and he will be represented by 90 juveniles in 2023.For his sixth season at stud, the European Three-Year-Old Champion and best son of Wootton Bassett, will operate at a fee of 25,000€.
The best son of Siyouni at stud in France and the only one to have performed at Gr.1 level over 1200m,
City Light has attracted interest from breeders for each of his three first seasons at stud, covering 147, 119 and then over 100 mares once again this year. A rare representative of the Kenmare bloodline, City Light performed from 2 to 5 years old and at Gr.1 level at distances from 1200m to 1400m, beaten by the narrowest of margins in the Gr.1 Prix de la Foret and Gr.1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot, and winning the Gr.3 Prix de Saint-Georges and Gr.3 Prix du Pin. As he approaches his fourth season as a sire, his first yearlings have proven very popular in the sales rings. Indeed, his first progeny have changed hands for up to 10 times his covering fee, with prices reaching 85,000€, 80,000€, 60,000€, 42,000€ etc.
His first juveniles will be seen on the track next year, trained by the likes of Henri Devin, Jean-Claude Rouget, Henry-Alex Pantall, Tim Donworth, Pia Brandt, Carlos & Yann Lerner, Francois Rohaut and of course City Light’s handler Stéphane Wattel who has acquired several of his yearlings in partnerships.
On the strength of the quality and quantity of his first three books of mares, and the appeal of his representatives at auction, City Light will continue his stallion career for a fee of 7,000€ in 2023.
Etreham’s two youngest sires welcomed their first foals this year.Persian King, a triple Gr.1 winner and Classic scorer at three years old, Group winner as a juvenile at Newmarket and impressive third in the 2020 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, is among the best sons of Kingman in Europe after his second covering season in 2022.
His brilliant racing career, for which he was rewarded with the title of leading French miler, as well as his excellent locomotion and remarkable attitude, have earned him strong support from breeders during his first two seasons at stud, covering a full book in his first year and more than 110 mares this year.The first progeny of this former representative of André Fabre have been stamped with the elegance and the good mentality of their sire, they are athletic and good walkers. The satisfaction of breeders who have placed their confidence in him is essential and very positive for his continuing stallion career. Some of these first foals will pass through the sales ring at the end of this year.
Persian King will be available at the fee of 25,000€ in 2023.
Alongside Persian King in the ranks of sires with their first foals, Hello Youmzain has also enjoyed solid support from breeders. The handsome bay covered a full book in 2021 and 128 mares in 2022.
A son of Kodiac out of a mare by the excellent and much-missed Shamardal, he was a Gr.2 winner as a juvenile, a Gr.1 scorer at 3 and confirmed his status as one of the best European sprinters at 4 years old with victory in the Gr.1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot.Kodiac, leading sire of juveniles by number of winners, is also making his name as a sire of sires because each of his sons have produced black-type horses from their first crop and four of his sons have already been represented by Gr.1 performers.
As the best son of Kodiac at stud, Hello Youmzain represents a superb opportunity for breeders from France and abroad.His first foals born this year have pleased their breeders and appear to inherit their sire’s powerful, chic, balanced and commercial physique. Some of these will be seen at upcoming foal sales.
In 2023, Hello Youmzain will be offered for a fee of 22,500€.
