THE GR.1 WINNING SON OF FRANKEL, ONESTO, TO JOIN THE HARAS D’ETREHAM STALLION RANKS IN 2024

Superb finisher in the Gr.1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, being the only horse to complete the final 200m in less than 11 seconds, Onesto will join the Haras d’Etreham to embark upon his stallion career in 2024.

Onesto made an immediate impression from his first steps on the track as a juvenile. The colt possesses natural speed and was an easy winner on his racing debut over the mile. After a seasonal debut at three years old in the Gr.3 Prix de Fontainebleau, he demonstrated a powerful turn of foot to lift the Gr.2 Prix Greffulhe, passing the whole field in just a few strides to win cosily by two lengths.

The son of Frankel shone for the first time at the highest level with victory in the Gr.1 Grand Prix de Paris. Once again displaying his formidable acceleration, he beat 5 winners of 12 Group races including the French Gr.1 winner Simca Mille and the Roger Varian-trained dual Gr.1 winner Eldar Eldarov.

Two months later, Fabrice Chappet’s charge lined up to conquer the Gr.1 Irish Champion Stakes, and finished a narrow second after a memorable battle for victory with Luxembourg, beating dual Gr.1 scorer Vadeni, triple Gr.1 winner Mishriff, as well as Alenquer and Broome, both successful at the highest level.

After an excellent return to action this year in the Gr.1 Prix du Haras de Fresnay-Le-Buffard Jacques Le Marois over a mile, his recent excellent third place in the Arc de Triomphe confirmed his status as an extraordinary racehorse. Ridden patiently and still in the rear at the entrance to the final straight, Onesto once again demonstrated his exceptional acceleration, tracing the same final three furlongs as the winner, despite carrying 3kg more.

His sheer class and exceptional mentality have enabled him to perform throughout his career from two to four years old, after starting out by passing the tests of the American Breeze-Up sales with flying colours.

A son of the exceptional Frankel whose talents as a sire of sire have recently been illustrated thanks to the winner of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, Onesto will be his best son in France.

Hailing from a Juddmonte family, he is out of a daughter of the full sister to Hasili, a foundation mare of one of the greatest bloodlines of modern times, responsible notably for Dansili and Banks Hill. The blue-blooded Onesto will be none other than the first stallion out of a dam by Sea The Stars, who is earning the status of an excellent broodmare sire.

Nicolas de Chambure declared, “Selected by Hubert Guy at the breeze-up sales in America, Onesto has always shown great speed for a Classic horse. He possesses a most remarkable pedigree, which is why we acquired him as a two-year-old. He was a magnificent colt and has become a very handsome horse with the conformation of a miler and a strong physique. Our hopes of seeing him becoming a stallion prospect have been realised thanks to his high-class performances at the top level. In addition to his natural speed, he boasts a rare capacity of acceleration and the mentality of a warrior. His racing career has been a wonderful adventure alongside a group of enthusiastic associates and we are delighted to welcome Onesto to stud as he represents a unique opportunity for us, and a first-rate profile for French breeders and the French stallion ranks.”

Onesto has recovered well from his performance in the Arc and is now targeting the Breeders’ Cup Turf at Santa Anita.

A syndication will be created, with some shares available, and his stud fee will be announced in the forthcoming weeks.
